Thanks for reading The Attic Capital Newsletter - searching for the world’s greatest collectibles.
Three Things -
We could talk about rare coins, sports cards, and cool collectibles all day long - but for now, here is this week’s Three Things.
#1 - The Amazing Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle
I’m searching for the finest Saint-Gaudens double eagle gold coins in existence. Can you help? Let me know if you own, or are looking to sell your double eagles.
1907 extremely high relief coins are of particular interest to me at the moment.
If your not familiar with the Saint-Gaudens double eagles, here’s a quick history of the amazing coin.
#2 - Collector Car Values Sliding?
Let’s check-in on collector car values. There’s rumblings lately that values are beginning to soften. Or could it be the same old voices trying to talk down the market so they can get a better deal??
I like to start with the Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index. While it’s not specific to collector cars, it gives a big-picture view of the auto market.
The index is falling, but we have a long way to go for values to come back down to what some would call a “normal market,” before the pandemic.
Now for the collector cars - same story. The Hagerty Market Rating for October showed a consistent pattern, and recorded it’s sixth monthly decrease in a row.
Even our favorite YouTuber and expert car reviewer, Doug DeMuro, has been discussing the slowing market. Here’s his latest thoughtful analysis of the market.
On the bright side, now we can get ready to find some deals!
#3 - Babe Ruth Rookie Card Online Auction
One of the most expensive baseball cards of all-time is currently for sale online. It’s the 1914 Baltimore News Babe Ruth rookie card, just one of ten known examples to exist.
Bidding is underway, Robert Edward Auctions has started the two-week online auction. With an opening bid of $2.5 million, in just one day the SGC VG-3 graded-card has a current bid of $5.25 million.
What will this card sell for in the current sports card market? I’ll be keeping an eye on this one.
