#51-Mickey Mantle's Astonishing Rookie Year
"We did it, me and my dad. I was on my way back. The Yankees brought me up from Kansas City around the end of August." -Mickey Mantle
Hope you are having a great week!
Here’s a few interesting things I learned this week while searching for the world’s greatest collectibles.
#1 - Mickey Mantle and His Dad
Mickey Mantle would have never imagined the year he would have in 1951.
It was his rookie year in the big leagues with the New York Yankees.
But without a difficult conversation with his Father in a Kansas City hotel room in that same year -
The Mick's career would have been over before it even had a chance to begin...
I read the amazing book titled, "The Mick," by Mickey Mantle, published in 1985, with the help of writer Herb Gluck.
I learned about the incredible father and son connection that created, "The Mick," from his amazing Dad, who they called, "Mutt."
Hope you enjoy it!
#2 - ‘Illegal Tender’ by David Tripp
I absolutely loved reading David Tripp’s book, ‘Illegal Tender.’ I would strongly recommend you check out this book. It was my second time reading it, and I flew through it in just a few days.
The amount of research that Tripp put into this amazing work, it was astounding to read the crazy amount of detail.
Let me remind you, this ‘creators story’ of the Saint Gaudens double eagle coin is just the first chapter of David Tripp’s book!
There is still an entire book left to go, and it covers the amazing hunt for the 1933 double eagle coin that lasts over 70 years!
#3 - Horacio Pagani Buys His Autoclave
Horacio doesn’t take “no” for an answer.
After being told “no” from his boss, he promptly rides his bicycle to the local bank and asks for a loan to buy his own autoclave.
The bank approves the loan, and Horacio brings his boss the contract for his new autoclave.
Horacio asks his boss at Lamborghini where he should put his new autoclave once it’s delivered.
His boss responds, “you are committed mad!” Get back to work, he says.
